“I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, sweat and tears.” Winston Churchill
The time for action is now! Precinct walking for Kevin Jensen begins this weekend.
This election is an uphill fight against an entrenched incumbent who, as we have already seen, will go to any length to be reelected. As we saw with the South Bay Labor Council, and now with the Republican Party, she has pulled in all her markers in the political establishment to get their support. The lies produced by her camp have begun with the fake Vic Ajlouny story. Soon we will see the smear campaign against Kevin. Everybody who knows Kevin Jensen admires him for his honesty and integrity but that will not shield him from being smeared. I can tell you from personal experience that even if there is nothing wrong, she, and the people she surrounds herself with, will make up whatever stories they need to.
When I began my career with the Sheriff’s Department in early 1979, the deputies could not stop talking about how hard the DSA had worked to defeat the incumbent, Sheriff Jim Geary, in 1978. They were proud of the fact that they walked every precinct in the County to get Lt. Bob Winter elected.
Up to this point most of the major media outlets have ignored this race just as they have ignored most of the incumbent’s bad management of a major government agency. The secondary media, some of which is controlled by a friend of the incumbent, have already ceded the election to her. They have written that the DSA/CPOA are wasting their money and time backing someone who has no chance. Essentially those of us who are working to elect Kevin, as well as the members of the two associations are being depicted as fools. That makes me mad and it should make you mad too!
Those media geeks are right in the sense that defeating an incumbent is difficult. This is a grass roots effort and it needs your help! Upon taking office as the Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1940, Winston Churchill said, “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, sweat and tears.” “Blood, toil, sweat and tears?” Isn’t that part of the job description of our chosen profession? I think we can avoid the blood and tears but we need your toil and sweat! Actually not “WE” but “YOU” need it. You are the ones who have to work in this department. Now is the time to change it.
Contributions are still needed but so is your time. Contact your association and sign up for at least one 4 hour shift or go to the web page and sign up. (We are working on ideas of how to utilize those of you who are off weekdays only.) Or, just show up with your water bottle and walking shoes this Saturday and/or Sunday (3/15 and 3/16) at 0900 or 1300 in front of the Mitsuwa Supermarket at the intersection of Saratoga Ave and Moorpark Ave. Bring your spouse, kids, significant other, life partner, friends, etc. They, to, have a vested interest in the success of this campaign. Other volunteers are welcome and needed.
The time to stand up and take action is now!
