Let’s play the old Sesame Street game “Which of these people isn’t like the others” and see if you can tell me, in each of these press conference images of the local law enforcement leader during a major active shooter event in their area, who looks like they don’t belong?
A. Aurora, CO Chief of Police
B. Santa Clara County, CA Sheriff
C. Washington, DC Chief of Police
D. Santa Monica, CA Chief of Police
No… it’s not that one of them is a sheriff. A Sheriff still belongs in the law enforcement community, so that’s not different. If you guessed that one of them hasn’t bothered to put on their uniform (yet again) so you can tell they’re part of, the leader of, the local law enforcement team, give yourself a pat on the back! Yes, yet again, you know who refuses to wear her uniform. The last picture of her in uniform is so old, that it’s from her first administration back in the late 1990’s, yet it still graces the front page of the Sheriff’s Office web page. and sadly, despite the law against politicking in uniform, the same old picture is also gracing her re-election Facebook page.
Has anyone even seen her in a uniform since then? Does she still have one that fits? Maybe she’s ashamed of her uniform? If some one is so ashamed of their uniform they can’t even wear it at press conferences involving police matters or active crime scenes where the press is present, should they really be sitting in the Office of the Sheriff?
I wonder what she would do if all her deputies showed up at the scene in their casual clothes? I’m betting it wouldn’t go unnoticed if they did.
